Wiebke Weber is Head of the Core Scientific Team of the European Social Survey (ESS) ERIC at the Research and Expertise Centre for Survey Methodology (RECSM), Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Barcelona.
Within the ESS, Wiebke focuses on measurement quality and cross-national measurement equivalence. Within the SERISS project, she studies web survey panellists’ responding behaviour as well as strategies to improve this behaviour.
Wiebke is also head of the Advanced Survey Quality Methods (ASQME) research group. As a survey consultant, she advises on questionnaire design and survey data analyses with correction for measurement error.
Wiebke has worked in the field of Survey Research since 2007 and received her PhD in the area of political science and survey methodology from UPF in January 2013, under the supervision of Willem Saris (UPF) and Mariano Torcal (UPF). Her dissertation was on the topic of measurement equivalence and the meaning of left-right orientation using data from the ESS.
Wiebke’s research interests are political attitudes and behaviour, public opinion, questionnaire design, equivalence testing and all other aspects of survey methodology.
Previously, she was a member of the Scientific Advisory Panel of SAHWA (2014-2017), publication officer of the online journal Survey Research Methods (SRM, 2009-2014) and held the position of General Secretary of the European Survey Research Association (ESRA, 2009-2011).
